Dressing the Part...

Historical dress tells us a lot about a society in the past! In the 1800s, powdered wigs were a mark of a person of stature and upper societal standing.

The students, while working on PBL pieces, love to find authentic clothes, wigs, hats, and costumes of a period. They love the agency as they create a unique product demonstrating key social studies skills!

Examining Relics from the past...

Students have been working hands-on with artifacts, relics, and objects from the past; By examining evidence and formulating a thesis on what the object might be and what it was possibly used for in the past. Students then utilized technology and the vast resources of websites, to find out additional information about the objects, reflecting on their initial thesis and what the purpose of the object/artifact was in fact used for.  These exercises help to build Historical thought and logical construction of argumentation.

Getting their day in Court…

Hear ya, Hear ya, the court is in session. This month, 8th-grade students have built upon their knowledge of the Bill of Rights and learned about our 3rd branch of Government, our Judicial Branch. Students conducted a “mock” trial, over one of two separate civil cases. In this project, they demonstrated real-world court procedures and processes, including jury decision-making and examination of arguments and evidence.

Game Based-Learning

Learning should be a positive and fun experience! When we work on building basic-level knowledge/skills, we use attention-focusing games that help promote a positive emotional state that makes learning enjoyable. Students pictured here created a game show that features the Bill of Rights!

Brain Breaks promote learning!

All work and no play make the learner lose focus! Taking a few minutes away from a day of memorization, learning, and problem-solving refreshes the learning process for the students. We often break out in dancing competitions to help the brain refresh and re-energize!
