Social Studies
I began my career in the field of education in 2011, working for the Derby School district. Prior to this, I was an operations manager for Darden Inc. and was part of a team that opened several successful units, including the training of staff for our then second international location in Dubai.
I was excited for the opportunity to join the Belle Plaine Middle School team in 2019 as the 7th & 8th grade Social Studies teacher. In addition to teaching my core subject areas of Geography, Kansas History, and American History, I started and coach our after-school Middle School Scholastics Chess program. I am currently our middle school scholars’ bowl team coach and am an assistant track and field coach, working with jr. athletes on distance running events.
I have happily married for 20+ years to my wife Sheryl Woods. She working in education as well, in the Derby School District. We have one daughter, Brooke, who is 24 years old, who lives in Iowa. We reside with three small, yappy, little dogs, who spend their days protecting our home from rogue squirrels and failing to understand personal space.
